CLASSROOM IN
THE DIRT
Youth Empowerment
Welcome to our Classroom in the Dirt Youth Empowerment program at DH Ranch, where nature's embrace becomes medicine for the spirit, and every moment is infused with the transformative power of empowerment. Surrounded by the presence of horses, participants embark on a journey of self-discovery and cultural immersion.
Through relay racing, horsemanship, and rodeo events, our children build not only skills but also self-esteem and confidence. Laughter and fun reverberate through our calm and safe space, as meaningful relationships and connections with the land and each other deepen.
Guided by our dedicated team of facilitators, each interaction is an opportunity for growth, while Tsuut'ina Gunaha language development adds another layer of cultural richness. In this sanctuary of horse-assisted learning, every child finds their voice and their place.
We will not turn any child away. Together, we journey toward empowerment, hand in hand, one hoofprint at a time.
This program is free.
DH RANCH INDIGENOUS RELAY TEAM
The DH Ranch Indigenous Relay Team is built on tradition, teamwork, and the strength of our people. Relay racing is more than a sport. It is a connection to who we are, where we come from, and the stories carried through our horses.
At DH Ranch, we are creating opportunities for youth and athletes to step into this powerful sport with guidance, safety, and purpose. Through relay racing, riders learn discipline, responsibility, and trust — not only in themselves, but in their team and their horses.
This program is about more than competition. It is about building strong individuals who understand the value of hard work, respect, and cultural identity. Riders are supported in developing horsemanship skills, physical conditioning, and mental strength while being surrounded by positive role models.
We are also committed to creating pathways for Indigenous athletes to compete at higher levels, including major events like the Calgary Stampede. By doing this, we are helping bring visibility back to a sport that has deep roots in our communities.
At the heart of it all, the horses remain our greatest teachers. They teach patience, humility, and connection. Every ride is a lesson, and every athlete carries that forward into their life.
What We Focus On
- Relay racing fundamentals and safety
- Horsemanship and horse care
- Teamwork and communication

INDIGENOUS & DIVERSITY EDUCATION IN SPORTS
This program creates space for real understanding through sport, culture, and shared experience. It brings people together to learn, listen, and build stronger relationships rooted in respect.
At DH Ranch, we believe education goes beyond the classroom. Through hands on experiences, participants gain a deeper understanding of Indigenous perspectives, history, and values while engaging in sport and land based learning. These experiences open conversations that lead to awareness, connection, and meaningful change.
We work with teams, organizations, schools, and corporate groups to create environments where people feel safe to ask questions, reflect, and grow. This is not about checking a box. It is about building relationships and walking forward in a better way together.
Participants leave with a stronger sense of cultural awareness, a deeper respect for Indigenous knowledge, and practical tools they can carry back into their teams, workplaces, and communities.

TRUTH & RECONCILIATION IN ACTION
Reconciliation is not just words. It is action, relationships, and the work we choose to do every day.
At DH Ranch, reconciliation happens on the land, through shared experiences, honest conversations, and learning together. We create space for people to step in, listen, and understand Indigenous history, culture, and perspectives in a way that feels real and meaningful.
This work is about building trust. It is about creating environments where people feel safe to ask questions, reflect, and grow without judgment. Through land based learning, cultural teachings, and connection with the horses, participants begin to see reconciliation not as a concept, but as something they can live and carry forward.
We work with youth, organizations, and communities to move beyond awareness and into action. That means building relationships, supporting Indigenous voices, and creating opportunities for real change.
Reconciliation is ongoing. It takes time, effort, and commitment. At DH Ranch, we are doing that work together.
